UK Online Casino Bonuses

Online casinos and poker rooms offer a wealth of different bonuses and incentives, so much so that it can be confusing. But these bonuses can actually offer great value for money, so it’s worth taking a little time to understand them.

A sign up or new player bonus is only available to players who have not registered for an account before for the Casino offering the bonus. They are tailored to your favorite games so if you are a slots player choose a ‘Slots Only’ bonus as you will clear the wager requirements quicker.

Loyalty bonuses are also popular with online casinos and poker rooms, and involve ‘rewarding’ players for continuing to play at their site. Generally the more you spend the more loyalty bonuses you will be entitled to.

Sign-up bonus

The most common bonus offered is the sign-up bonus. A sign up or new player bonus is only available to players who have not registered for an account before for the Casino offering the bonus.

Typically these come in three types: a no-deposit bonus, a deposit match bonus and a free money bonus.

No-deposit bonuses are simply what they sound like – a casino will give you free money to start playing at their site, without requiring you to deposit any money.

Deposit match bonuses are typically advertised as “100% sign-up bonus” or “100% bonus up to £50” etc. This means that whatever amount you deposit the casino will match it, double it, or treble it and so on, depending on the advertised percentage.

Free Money or Welcome Bonuses are when the casino will gives you an advertised sum so long as you deposit a minimum amount of money first. Depositing more money than the minimum will not increase your bonus unless specified.

Earning your bonus

The money from these bonuses will not appear straight in you account; you will have to earn it, which you do by gambling a certain amount of money, called “wagering requirement”.

The amount you must wager will vary from casino to casino, but to help you understand how this works let us use a wagering requirement of ten times the bonus + your deposit.

So if the site advertised a 100% deposit match bonus up to £50, and you deposited £50, you would be expected to gamble (£50 + £50) x 10 = £1,000. That is your deposit (£50) plus the corresponding bonus (100% of £50 is £50) multiplied by ten. So £100 x 10 = £1,000.

Of course this does not mean you have to gamble away or lose £1,000, it just means that you have to wager that amount before the money will be released.

What to look out for

It should be clear from the above section that besides the advertised money on offer, the crucial thing to look out for when assessing the value of bonuses is the wagering requirements.
